En entretien d'embauche en anglais, les mêmes questions reviennent presque toujours : Tell me about yourself, Why do you want to work here?, What are your strengths?
1. Tell me about yourself.
I'm a sales coordinator with four years' experience in the food industry. I currently manage orders for about forty restaurant clients in the Lyon area. Before that, I worked in customer service, which taught me how to deal with difficult situations calmly. I'm now looking for a role where I can work with international clients, which is why this position caught my attention.
2. Why do you want to work here?
I've followed your company since you opened your first office in France, and I like the way you've grown without losing your focus on quality. Your plan to expand into Spain is exactly the kind of project I'd like to be part of.
3. Why are you leaving your current job?
Restez positif : ne critiquez jamais votre employeur actuel.
I've learned a lot in my current role, but there's limited room to grow in a small team. I'm ready for more responsibility and a more international environment.
4. What are your main strengths?
Deux qualités, chacune prouvée par un fait.
I'm very organised, and I'm good at explaining things clearly. For example, last year I wrote a step-by-step guide for our new ordering software, and the whole team now uses it.
5. What is your greatest weakness?
I used to find it hard to say no to extra tasks, and I sometimes ended up with too much on my plate. I've learned to check my priorities with my manager before taking on new work, and it's made a real difference.
6. Tell me about a time you faced a difficult situation at work.
Two weeks before a trade fair, our main supplier told us they couldn't deliver the stand on time. I was in charge of the event, so I had to find a solution quickly. I called three other suppliers the same day and negotiated a rental option with one of them. The stand arrived on time and cost us 10% less than planned.
7. Tell me about a time you made a mistake.
Early in my career, I sent a quote to a client with the wrong prices. I noticed it the next morning, called the client straight away to apologise, and sent a corrected version. Since then, I always ask a colleague to check any document involving figures before it goes out.
8. Where do you see yourself in five years?
I'd like to have developed real expertise in export sales and, ideally, to be managing a small team. I see this role as the right first step towards that.
9. Why should we hire you?
You're looking for someone who can manage client accounts independently and work in both French and English. I've been doing exactly that for four years, and I have a strong track record of keeping clients loyal.
10. How do you handle pressure?
I make a list, set priorities and deal with the most urgent task first. During our busiest month last year, we handled twice the usual number of orders, and we didn't miss a single delivery date.
11. What are your salary expectations?
Based on my experience and the market rate for this kind of role, I'm looking for something between 38,000 and 42,000 euros a year, but I'm open to discussing the whole package.
12. Do you have any questions for us?
Répondre No, thank you donne l'impression d'un manque d'intérêt.
L'erreur de temps la plus fréquente en entretien : I work here since 2021. Pour une situation qui dure encore, l'anglais emploie le present perfect : I've been working here since 2021 ou I've worked here for five years. Tout est expliqué sur since et for. Autres pièges : actually veut dire « en fait » (et non « actuellement », qui se dit currently), et my formation n'existe pas : dites my training ou my education.
La méthode STAR pour structurer ses réponses
Dès qu'une question commence par Tell me about a time… ou Give me an example of…, le recruteur attend une petite histoire en quatre temps.
|---|---|---|
| Situation | Le contexte, en une phrase. | Last year, our team was… |
| I was in charge of… / My job was to… |
| Action | Ce que vous avez fait (dites I, pas we). | I decided to… / I organised… |
| Result | Le résultat, chiffré si possible. | As a result,… / In the end,… |
- What does a typical day look like in this role?
- What would you expect me to achieve in the first six months?
- How is the team organised? Comment l'équipe est-elle organisée ?
- What do you enjoy most about working here?
- What are the next steps in the process?
- Sorry, could you repeat the question? Pardon, pourriez-vous répéter la question ?
- Do you mean in my current job or in general?
- That's a good question. Let me think for a second. Bonne question. Laissez-moi réfléchir un instant.
Exercice : les phrases de l'entretien
Complétez avec la forme correcte.
- I (work) at Castelbrun since 2021.
- I (lead) the project in 2023.
- I'm very in this position.
- I'm looking forward meeting the team.
- I'm good managing deadlines.
- My notice period is one month, so I could start March.
- It took several weeks, but I found a solution.
- What does a typical day look in this role?
Restez simple : Hello, I'm Léa Fontaine. Nice to meet you, and thank you for inviting me.
I'm looking for something between… and…
Demandez poliment de répéter ou de reformuler : Sorry, could you rephrase that?
